The banking operations across the country came to a standstill on 28 July 2006 when nearly 5 lakhs bank employees and officers of Foreign, Private and Public Sector Banks went on a one day strike as a protest against the central governments policy of bank privatization and outsourcing.

On 5 May 2005, the city of Pathankot in Punjab witnessed a protest march of the brick kiln workers demanding minimum wages. The workers also demanded immediate transfer of the Pathankot Labour Officer alleging he was in connivance with the owners of the kilns.

The Ordinance promulgating a ban on dance bars in Maharashtra is awaiting the final nod of Governor S M Krishna. The Ordinance, which will decide the fate of thousands of women dancers and other workers, was approved by the state cabinet on 18 May 2005.

The strike by 8,200 contract workers of the Vishakapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) demanding higher wages, increased allowances, bonus and medical facilities was called off on 16 June 2005 after the management agreed to consider the demands.
