The Ordinance promulgating a ban on dance bars in Maharashtra is awaiting the final nod of Governor S M Krishna. The Ordinance, which will decide the fate of thousands of women dancers and other workers, was approved by the state cabinet on 18 May 2005.

The strike by 8,200 contract workers of the Vishakapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) demanding higher wages, increased allowances, bonus and medical facilities was called off on 16 June 2005 after the management agreed to consider the demands.

On 20 June 2005, seven central trade unions unambiguously opposed the fuel price hike announced by the union cabinet and insisted on its immediate withdrawal.
